Minor Pentatonic Patterns for Guitar

Updated: Aug 17, 2018

A scale reference for Minor Pentatonic Scale box shapes. These are the five shapes/patterns for Minor Pentatonic scale on guitar, based off the CAGED System:

1 (D Shape)

2 (C Shape)

3 (A Shape)

4 (G Shape)

5 (E Shape)

PRACTICE TIPS

  1. Pick a key.

  2. Locate the note on a string.

  3. Overlay the pattern with the 'R' falling on the note of a chosen key.

  4. Play pattern up and down then pick another key.

  5. Practice ONE shape a day and spend 2mins learning the pattern and moving it around to different keys.

If this all seems confusing then check out my free lessons on Fretboard Knowledge: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
